Hub Hero
Our Hub Hero for this month (in reality for the past 23 months!) is: Nigel Benwell, Ivinghoe resident and Maintenance Volunteer for the Hub.
Since he first volunteered for the Trust in September 2021 Nigel has been at the heart of almost every project we have undertaken. He has done over 450 hours of voluntary work for the Trust so far, ranging from overseeing all the restoration and repair work, including builders, electricians, heating engineers, lighting engineers and plumbers down to reading the meters and putting the bins out!
He has drawn up all the technical designs for the new kitchen and café areas, physically removed most of the old equipment and internal fixtures and replaced with new, removed sinks, sanded flooring, removed weeds and skips full of rubbish in preparation for the restoration. If the alarm goes off you will see him running across the road within minutes, ready to assist. When we need quotes for work or repair he liaises with a variety of vendors to make sure the windows get cleaned, the electrics get checked, the heaters get fixed, the meters get read.
Without Nigel, the work of the Trust could not take place. He is rightly our first official ‘Hub Hero’. Thanks Nigel!
The Hub Hero program is a new initiative at the Hub.
Volunteers are the backbone of any Charity, but especially so in a Community Hub whose aims are to provide daily support and activities. We are therefore launching a new volunteer program called ‘Hub Heroes’ which will be a feature of regular updates on our website.
We need Hub Heroes to help with organising events, managing bookings, building maintenance and upkeep, website and social media updates and fund raising, to name but a few.
Be a Hub Hero!
You can volunteer for an hour or a day, each week or every month, depending on what spare time you have.
Each month specially chosen Hub Heroes will have the option of having their picture posted on Hub website and FB page with details of what they have contributed to the community.
Younger children and teenagers who volunteer will receive a letter of thanks from the Hub Charity outlining the nature of their volunteering, which they can use as part of their future college/university/job references.
Hub Hero Sponsors
We are also launching a ‘Hub Hero Sponsor’ wall at the hub where local businesses and trades who have assisted the community in some way via their support for the Hub or its activities will be given the opportunity to advertise their services.
